GREENLAND IS MELTING. 

Polar ice caps are thawing. Sea levels are rising. Coastal cities are sinking. Nowhere else on planet earth is climate change more apparent than Greenland. It is ... undeniable. I'd recently read about a climatologist named Dr. Jason Box who had a radical theory about why Greenland was melting. If right, he'd help change the course of climate change. But to prove it he needed to fund a costly research expedition to the ice island. I found his number online. "Hello, Dr. Box!"  I pitched an idea to help crowdsource the funds. Four months later, we were standing in New York's Union Square Park on Earth Day watching our idea melt in the street — as crowds of concerned citizens opened their minds and their wallets to help Dr. Box get back to Greenland to help save us all. Worth noting: to pull this off, we begged, borrowed, and bargained with everyone involved, from the ice sculptor to the mobile app company to the City of New York for the venue. Total cost: under $10,000.
